Monday…Montalcino…Madness! I call it mmm, for short – and boy howdy, is it ever DELICIOUS! Brunello di Montalcino is the top dog of Tuscan wines in my book, and it’s crazy to think that despite hailing from a top estate – and just the 28th producer to make Brunello over 55 years ago – this FLAGSHIP wine can be yours at such an incredible price! A chest-crushing 450 meters above sea-level, just about a mile southwest of the ancient Montalcino fortification, the incredible Il Poggiolo is in da HOUSE!

Only a stone’s throw from a handful of other Montalcino greats like Le Potazzine, and just across the valley from Castello di Romitorio, Rudy Cosimi has a prime 65-hectare parcel passed down from his father. Rudy has become rather infamous in Montalcino as a rather polarizing character – with a sharp tongue and no internal filter – but when the wine is this good, you tend to make allowances! And, my word…is it ever good! Incredibly vibrant and pure notes of black cherries, and sandalwood, followed by a medley of raspberries, peonies, red currants, roasted coffee beans, and vanilla. The sweet red fruit sensations carry seamlessly as the wine’s core, but spice accents, zippy acidity, and grippy, powerful tannin structure extend this through into a long and lasting finish. The 95 POINT review suggested waiting until after 2025 to start drinking…and guess WHAT?!?! 2026 is here, baby! Plenty of life to come on this tightly-packed baller of Brunello – and with a price like this, you’d be wise to get AT LEAST six bottles.
